Hi
My CAG had a fall in his cage and managed to scrape in between his nostrils - there was a tiny bit of blood....
My question is two fold -
1. Would I need to do anything for such a minor injury, it's almost like a grazing of the skin?
2. I used a cotton bud to apply pressure to his wound and now have 'his' blood on the bud. I remember Jane posting details of how greys can be sexed and where to send off samples but I've forgotten where. Does anyone happen to have these details? And know if this cotton bud would be satifactory?

It should heal up okay, just keep an eye on it. The place to send off to for sexing is at www.avianbiotech.com. You have to send either a freshly plucked feather or a drop of blood. I don't think blood on a cotton bud would be sufficient, but hang on to it until you find out for sure! Jane

Thanks Jane.
I went to that website but I think I would need considerable more blood to test for DNA.
And I don't like the sounds of plucking feathers either!!
I'll keep an eye on the graze...........

If you have an avian vet in your area most will take a sample for dna sexing for you
