Hello everybody,
I've just inherited (well sort of) an 15 year old male African Grey Timneh Parrot (Nimrod by name) who is surprisingly friendly considering i've only had him a couple of weeks.
He can talk, take seeds out of my mouth and is otherwise a very social creature (with the occasional bite). However, as i am not in all the time I think it would be good to find him a mate to keep him occupied when i'm not around.
Does anyone on this forum have any tips for me concerning finding him a mate? I live in South Devon and can travel, though would prefer to find one locally, so if anyone knows of any breeders in my area that would be superb.
Alternatively, would it be a good idea for me to get a rescue Parrot and take my chances?
Any help and suggestions would be most welcome. You can reply to this forum or alternatively write to me at my e-mail address jarvisimon@hotmail.com
Thanks

Hello Simon Firstly, it is not a good idea to let Nimrod take anything out of your mouth, humans saliva contains bacteria that is not good for parrots. Has Nimrod only been with humans all the time, does he have experience of other birds? Also, by mate do you mean another Grey or do you mean another bird. Greys can be quite fussy about other birds and won't necessarily get on with another Grey. A rescue parrot could well require a lot of attention and that might not be the best idea if you are not going to be around and are looking for a companion for Nimrod. Also, what sort of situation is he used to, is he used to lots of company and attention or is he used to being on his own for some of the time? It sounds as if he is quite a settled and stable grey so it might be better to let him settle in with you for a while before you make any decisions about getting another bird.
