When they start to talk it is often indistinct and just individual words. The first word Mitzi said was "hello". Some words are more difficult than others and they need to practise them before they become clear. If you think you can tell which word Koko is trying to say, repeat it back to him when he says it and tell him he is a clever boy. Talking parrots sometimes do a sort of mumbled "general conversation" type of talking, as well, when they are mimicking speech patterns but not saying anything recognisable. Mitzi does this when she is trying to join in with us and thinks she should be having her say in the conversation. She also says single words, short sentences that she has learnt, and short sentences she has put together herself from words she knows.
