Hello all, My grey is doing fine with the poo training , and things have been much better since i started to train him...no more running aroung with the toilet paper!!! However one of the thing it gets me to worry is , that from the beggining i got my grey, i noticed him to be scratching a lot. Well i do bath him everyday and i dont understand why! Is it normal? Do they just clean their selfs like that? But the thing that worries me is that each time he does that somes feathers tend to go out ! I dont thing this i s feather plucking and it doesn't seem like that. Please let me know Thank you in advance guys

They naturally preen themselves when relaxed. Scratching and picking will allow the down feathers to float away. This is normal, but as you pet him check for dry skin. Jane may have a cure if you find dermatitis; I don’t have as much experience as she does.

Yes they do scratch quite a lot and they lose small feathers and down on a daily basis. This is normal. African Greys need quite high humidity so extra water bowls in the room can be a good idea to keep it up if necessary. Spraying with aloe vera can also help moisturise the skin.
