As Rosie is happy to come on your hand some of the time I think you need to concentrate on step-up training. You say she is happy to come on your hand but does she do that to your command? When a bird is trained to step-up it actually becomes an automatic response. It sounds as if she is being territorial about her cage as well. She sees her cage as her place and you are invading it, so offer her treats in the cage so that she accepts your hand being in there. Greys can be quite wary of hands anyway so everything needs to be done slowly and carefully.

Hi Darren, Do you happen to have any kind of a play gym? If Rosie only has her cage to be with, as Jane says, territorial issues are likely. Is your cage mostly above your eye level? This too, can create a dominance issue. If Rosie looks down on you, why would she want to go somewhere else to look up at you? Lower the cage if needed, and in a slow progression if possible. I would definitely think about getting a play gym, though. Where the two of you can interact and enjoy each other, and hopefully use your cage just when needed. One other thought, some parrots discover how cool it is to act frightened, and by so, getting the attention that comes with it. Stimulation in other rooms, where the cage is not, might help. And of course, stay true to the coarse of patience. Our Feathered Friends have all the time in the world. Blessings, Scotty
