Hello all, I just don't know what to do! I have a chance to get a timneh that is just about weaned, Or a congo that is about 6 months old and sexed. The timneh is not sexed. IF any of you were in my shoes,What would YOU do? The Congo is a male. comes with a cage and is alittle higher priced than the timneh. I would be a 1st time gray owner too.[glow=red,2,300]HELP?[/glow]

Hi Sharon, Thats a tough choice you have there. I suppose its down to personal choice but if I were you I would spend a bit of time with each bird and see how you feel. Which ever bird you choose Im sure you love. Thats how I choose my grey and it worked out really well for me shes fantastic
Good luck Hilary

I think if you can get to spend a bit of time with each bird it might be an easier choice, in terms of their reaction to you and vice versa for instance. When I got Mitzi she was in a cage with her brother but she came down and put her head out of a hole in the cage. She seemed determined that I would buy her! As I mentioned in another post, generally speaking, Timnehs are not as highly strung as Congos but they are all individual birds so it doesn't mean that this particular Timneh will be less nervous than this particular Congo. I would try and spend some time with each bird if you can.

TAGs are less neurotic and easier to take care of. CAGS are a challenge hence keeping us regulars with a passtime. I can't sway your decision. Read the posts and decide if you have the time to put towards a CAG. This is just my opinion; the more neurotic an animal is, the smarter they are. The smarter they are, and if you have the time, the more fun they provide. I'm at a loss to advise you; I don't have the trouble with mine as do the hundreds of posts that I have answered over the years.

My baby is about 70 miles away, I'm excited I can't wait to get him,I will refur to the tag as a him till i can get it sexed! I sure enjoy this board,I have learned alot in just a few days. Sharon Oh you must be so excited. You have certainly got a lot to look forward to. Let us know as soon as you get him. Hope the weather improves soon, there certainly seem to be some extremes going on just about everywhere.

Standard poodles always look elegant, the way they walk. Having said that there is one on a TV soap here that has been dyed sugar pink!
With regard to the name, you will find that personality is a major factor in choosing a name and some names just won't suit your new TAG. You might have to wait until you have had him/her for a while, and we have all seen the photos!

Jane's right, and keep in mind; the best of them have problems pronouncing certain words/names. i.e.: Pete (borderline) but he says it ok, and came to us named.; Mitzi, Monty, Zazzy, and several others here are good. They contain hard consonents, and they learn those because you don't have to specially annonciate the name for them. Pete can't pronounce Romeo; it sounds more like Favio. In order to teach Pete the name, we would have to pronounce it phonetically i.e.: ROW ME OH, which is hard to do for the many times it has to be done for them to learn. Sorry to bore you, but just a thought.
