Sometimes Abby's cere (her nostrils) are a light powdery grey inside. Sometimes they look darker. I'm not planning to take her to the vet just for this. Do other people's greys' cere change appearance?

I think this is probably when there is feather dust on the cere and in the nares after preening. The beaks get a light covering as well.

Thanks for the responses, Jane and Preston. I know it changes based on preening since she preens with her beak/cere. Her beak gets white-caked (ok, that's what we call it).
Generally, her cere looks light, but sometimes dark, too dark, almost like dirty. Usually after a shower, when a lot of powder is washed away, her cere looks light.
I guess my question is: Is her cere filtering yuck from the air, and if so, is the darkness yuck from the air? We don't have a really good air filter. One of our cats gets dust built up in his nose, but he's a ground forager. Abby doesn't sniff the floor (as far as I know).

Well, the air inside the house is dirty, and it varies with the location, if you live in a town or near a busy road it is dirtier. Also, burning candles can make the air surprisingly dirty, as is apparent from curtains and the interior of windows for example, after candles have been burnt. You will notice there are tiny hairs on the cere, these are more noticeable if you look from the side. These hairs may be picking up tiny particles in the air and making the cere look dirty.
