Hey everyone. My Tita has been poofing up quite a bit. I would say pretty constantly. I have heard several different things about what getting poofie means. 1 that it is a sign they are scared, 2, that they are cold, 3 that they are comfy, cozy and happy so on and so forth. And really i am not sure if any of them are accurate. Can someone help me out? DO i need to take her to the Vet? I think she is moulting also. Thank you guys!!! ae

If she is doing it when she sees something she doesn't like the look of then it is a combination of fear and trying to make herself look big. The feathers all go up and at the same time she may sway a little from side to side. I think this is what you mean.
If she is doing it a lot of the time and staying like that then it probably means she is cold because they do fluff their feathers up when cold.
It might be to do with the moult because it makes them feel uncomfortable and they can be a bit under the weather as well.
As long as there are no other symptoms I wouldn't worry too much.

Thank Jane! I didnt think i needed to worry to much, she seems fine other than that. We were hanging out a little while ago and she was preening some new sheathes off in an area that has been looking raggedey. I was more assured with i saw that also...
She really has adjusted well to her new environment and has become much more cuddly and sweet. THe only thing we are really worried about righ tnow is the very HIGH pitched whistleing she does. We dont mind so much when we are in other parts of the house, but when we are all in the same room... YIKES... my ears vibrate!!!!!! It is crazy!
Thank you for always having such prompt and thorough responses!!!!! Maybe one day I will be able to provide such informative answers!!!!

Pete fluffs up more and more as the temperature drops towards low 70s. Their comfort zone seems to pretty close to ours. I notice that when Pete gets afraid of something he fluffs up and his breast feathers shivver. Just keep a close eye her for a few days.
