Hi Guys,
We I think we have finally discovered what was the matter with Charlie. I am very sad to say that it was something that we done which has caused him this discomfort.
As Charlie often sits ontop of the kitchen units my partner decided to ckean up there so he totally sprayed it down with Dettol spray and left it for a few hours so I am thinking that Charlie has gone up there, managed to get it on his tail feather and it has irritated is skin.
I am pleased to report that Charile stop plucking late last night and this morning and we managed to get him to eat and play last night! He seems to be getting back to the Charlie we know!
I am going to take him to the vet tomorrow just to be sure that everything is as it should be!
Thank you to everyone who gave us information yesterday, as you can probably imagine it was a very distressing time for both Charlie, Alisdair and myself!
Hope everyone and their Grey Babies are well!

Good that you seem to have discovered what the problem is. Let us know if that turns out to be right. I am glad Charlie is feeling better, poor baby! Lidia

That is wonderful news. We tend to forget that birds are very sensitive to chemicals. It reminds me of an incident a couple of years ago. A friend of mine had just given her lovebirds a spray bath in the bathroom and rested the cage on the toilet while she cleaned the bath tub with a bleach ammonia type spray. By the time she had rinsed the tub out, both birds were violently convulsing and flopping around on the bottom of the cage and died a several minutes later.

We tend to forget that birds are very sensitive to chemicals. Who is the "we" you refer to? There is an awful lot on this forum about avoiding the use of chemicals around the house. Maybe you should assume that the people here have read it! Preachy, much? Lidia

Just to let you guys know, there are certain carpet cleaning chemicals that are fatal, as well; the only one I know of is Reslove. That's for the home steam cleaners I'm sure we all have! I know I do; my girls tend to fly off the cage, and when the land, it "knocks the crap out of them"!

What is "Dettol"? Pardon my ignorance, just never heard of it, and don't want it "accidentally" in my house!

Hi Louiesmom,
Dettol is and anti baterial spray which can be used to clean all surfaces! It also comes in other forms like bath cleaner and the like!
The product name is dettol so i don't think there is much chance that you could buy it and not know that its dettol!
Hope that helps!
