Don't know why, but I've noticed sinse the weekend, he won't let me smooth him anymore He is still my Mummies boy, but when I go to smooth him, he puts his head down for me to stroke him, then when I go to stroke him, he goes to nip me, and he has succedded on many occassions ! Very strange

Cheeno does this a lot too, it almost seems like she's teasing, (she even makes the noise we make to get her to come closer) while she puts her head down to be petted then she lets us get closer and then gives a nip. I think it's some kind of game they figure out from our reaction when they nip. I like when Cheeno plays this game. It took for me to stop pulling away when she would nip hard though, and now she is gentle when she does it.
I'm not too sure why Cheeno does this, I just assume it is a game.....I'm new at this, I've only had her for about 3 months, I just know she used to be mean when she did it and it did take a lot of good nips to show her that I wouldn't pull away anymore. I was also very patient and when she nipped I would just say calmly, OK Cheeno, we'll try again later.....stuff like that....

Ahhhhhh...the old bait-n-bite trick! Bobo laughs after he does it...and then giggles...and then chuckles (he has a laugh 'thing')...sometimes he will add a wise sounding "oooooooo...NO! No BoBo" and then continues to laugh and run/waddle away. He can't fool me anymore but he gives it a good go with anybody new. His favorite are the screamers...especially the macho men that he terrifies The last time I fell for it he was perched on top of his cage saying "come on...come here...come on step up" while running his claw through the feathers on the back of his neck (he likes to show me where he wants scritches next)... So I did...and he went for me. Bugger! %$#@$ Ya, he thought it was hilarious. He just LOVES human noisy reactions and will pretty much try any trick in the book to get it. HA! and they say birds don't have a sense of humor...

"LOVE IS IN THE AIR"
I think they are love bites. Trinie does this also. He will raise his head and neck feathers, lower his head when he wants me to pet him. Gee whiz... he would even indicate which areas he wants done by moving or turning his head.. I have been well trained... his man geisha if there is such a thing. After doing this for a minute or so he would very gently start nibbling/nipping my fingers. The reason I think there is a romantic rationale for it , is because after a couple of these sessions of "foreplay" he gurgitated food.
IT"S THE MOJO BABY!!!

I'm no expert, but I think its a game. It is my cockatiel favorite game in the whole world. Sam my ag will nip if you are not giving him your complete attention, but he has not learned that bait and bite game. I was hoping it was a tiel thing. Oh well.

Hmn, I don't think he's playing. Well, not all the time anyway, and they aren't just nips, he does actually bite m hard. I went down to him this morning and he was all cutched up in his feathers standing on his food bowl, and that's the time he normaly likes a smooth. So I said hello to him and went to smooth him, and he let me, but then he just bit me hard.

Maria, I think you will have to do something about this before it gets out of hand. Nipping is a playful act but when it hurts it is a bite. Charlie may be testing you to see what he can get away with or is beginning to establish dominance. If you don't control this now, it may become a habit and then you will have a serious problem later. Don't make a game of it because they tend to take it to the extreme.
