As you know Charlie has been a bit ill the past week and has been to the vet and had some calcium Jabs, and Calcium sprinkled on his food every day. I swear he is a different bird since he's been to see the vet ! This mornign yet agian he didn't shut up from 8am, when I got up, made him his breakfast, he went into Hyper-mode ! In his cage, franticly dipping his beack in his water, flapping his wings, shaking his head, but he is doing it so so so hyper, it's the funniest thing ever lmao ! He decided to come out of his cage and go on the top, onto his Perch where he has another bowl of Water, and he was going mad on top, I had to tease him down to do it in his cage incase he fell off ! I've given him an Almond or two now, to calm him down. Damn funny.

Monty and Mitzi do that, frantically trying to have a bath in their water bowl. They end up with very well washed faces and fronts!

Charlie sounds like he has made a pretty full recovery, excellent to hear!! Yeah, it's very cute the washing in the water bowl thing, but a pity that they (Joshua) doesn't do the same thing in the bowl of warm water I now leave in the bottom of his cage every day!!!!! No, THIS bowl is just for dropping all the toys into. And seed. And chewed up paper ... Mmmmmmm. Lidia

hey Lidia, Charlie does the same thing watching him struggle to have a bath in his drinking water bowls I searched my cupboards for a deep but quite flat bowl/dish added some tepid water for him to walk and maybe bath in but to no avail what did Charlie do!!!!!! caught hold of it and tipped it all over the place I guess it must have looked like a swimming pool to him compared to his drinking bowl ;D I have tried spraying him from above with a gentle water spray but he just goes beserk and I have read that they have to shower in order to preen themselves properly I just hope the drinking bowl is sufficent for him

I like to watch Monty playing with the toys for his big bowl on the floor of the cage. He will go down and choose a toy, lug it over to the bowl and drop it in, slosh it around, then go and choose another until the bowl is full of ducks, various sea creatures, and balls. After a while he climbs back up and leaves them for me to fish out.

How amazing that he's made such a great comeback so quickly ! Thank goodness you caught this problem in time !!
My house is usually about 68 degrees F. Is this really warm enough to give your birds a bath? Does anyone ever dry their birds with a hair dryer ?? How do they get on with the noise and blowing? My dryer has a warm setting that I have to use on my dog so I don't burn him along with keeping the dryer moving so it doesn't just hit one spot. I would expect that this would be the same for a bird or am I wrong. As my TAG will be the first large parrot I've owned and not knowing how an AG should act to begin with must make it very hard to tell if they are sick or not and when to panic and when not too.

Yes that is okay. The main thing to avoid is a draught. Birds have delicate skin so you have to be careful with hairdryers, it is best to let them dry naturally.

oh my--talk about avoiding drafts--I am having new windows put in the room where the tiel and my Tag will be. Hmmm think I over-reacted?? Only kidding--well maybe only half kidding. The windows in that room are horrible. When the lifeflight helicopter goes over you'd think they were gonna fall out. Besides the fact that I'm hoping it will cut my heat bills this winter as they keep predicting prices will double. That'll leave me more money for toys and toys and toys and toys ;D

Joshua gets a whoosh of the hairdryer every morning, not to dry him, but because it is part of our morning ritual! He gets a big whoosh pointed at the rear of his, errrr, undercarriage and then another whoosh under each wing and then we're good to go!
I don't think I'd ever use the hairdryer to dry him as, apart from drying his skin, it would unsettle his feathers and he would have a lot of work to do to put them right.

How cute that he needs that "whoosh" (trying to copy his mommy) and thanks -never thought about messing up his feathers or drying his skin.

I give Nikko his bath (actually a good misting) in the early afternoon, and then move his playgym by the sliding glass doors on the south side of the house. The warmth of the sun dries him off pretty quickly. I spray him with a little aloe after his bath as well.
