I've been up for the last 2 weeks at 5am for work. On weekends it's a luxury staying in bed past 7am ! I remember the days I used to be in bed untill 11, having a nice lay in. Sinse I've had Charlie, on weekends, about 7:45, you can hear him downstairs talking to himself, blabbering on, talking is so many languages (lol), so many accents, it wakes me up with a smile ! I got up at 8am this morning because he was muttering to himself ! So much for sleeping off hard work hey ! It's quite nice though. getting up, putting the kettle on to make yourself a cup of tea, and preparing your Birds brekfast at the same time. ;D

Monty and Mitzi don't make a sound until I go and get them up and then they are usually still up on their sleeping perches. One summer day we had to get them up at 5am and you should have seen their faces - they looked at me in such surprise and they just refused to go through the normal routine, having decided it was far too early to be getting up, even though it was light.

Nikko starts saying, "Good morning" at about 8 AM. He keeps saying it till I get him up. However, after feeding him (and myself) and giving him some attention, I go back to bed for awhile longer. Nikko is usually considerate and is quiet while I nap, although I don't get mad at him if he does decide to clatter around and throw things off the top of his cage.
At around 7:30 PM, Nikko starts saying, "Good night," and I get him tucked in by 8. He sure has a good internal clock.

Joshua usually starts contact calling as soon as he hears any movement. I don't know how sensitive CAG hearing is, but it must be very finely attuned to low sounds and vibrations because even turning around in my bed (two doors removed from the sitting room where he lives) can set him off! If my next-door-neighbour is particularly noisy, he can contact call to her also, and she and he often whistle to one another through the door. It is rare that he is still asleep when I come into the sitting room, but if it is dark enough outside it does happen, and then, as Maria said of Charlie, he looks very cute, all disgruntled and sleepy. Susu wakes up at sunrise and sleeps when the sun sets..this is a new habit of his and its slightly annoying because he basically kicks me out of the kitchen by 4pm by screaming his lung off to cover his cage and leave lol. And its particularly annoying because the days are getting shorter and I dont get to spend as much time with him. I try to distract him and maximum I can keep him awake is till 6:30..I wonder if its coz he's old and needs more sleep.. can anyone shed some light on this one?
Thanks hana

It is usually said that African Greys need anything from 10 to 14 hours sleep a night so in this sense Susu would be behaving fairly normally but if this is new behaviour is anything happening to disturb his sleep? I am not sure about him needing more sleep because he is old; firstly he isn't old for a Grey when you think what their life expectancy can be and secondly many animals, and humans, sleep less as they get older, not more.

I guess i'm lucky becuase mine stays quiet. As I work overnights I usually get home around 8am. Once i come into the apartment i usually hear the little dinging on one of the toys next to him. I leave him covered a little more. I only got Jack 2 months ago and from his previous owners he didn;t want to be touched. So needless to say any touching even in the morning is out of the question. Once I open the cage i ask him to step up, me mumbles steps up and I plae him on top of his cage. He find his spot over the edge (where i have the paper sticking out) and down goes the morning poop. He sleeps when he wants and keep himself entertained as I leave a small light on for him. I wonder if hes partying overnight when he knows I'm not there..... Have a good Thanksgiving everyone...
