For part of each day, my Chloe likes to sit quietly and stare at me from across the room, motionless. But normally she is not totally motionless (she'll grind her beak, blink her eyes, etc.), but occassionally, she'll stand so still, even when I walk up to her, looking wide-eyed and not moving or blinking at all. I'll say, "Are you okay?" but she doesn't react. She does look at me, though, but otherwise she appears totally in a daze or trance. If I move my hand toward her, she'll become normal again, and it seems like she's "snapping out of it", as if she's suddenly been woken from this meditative state.
I've only had her a month, so I don't know if this is normal for greys to do. She doesn't do it much, and always snaps out of it even when I don't interfere. She used to do it more intensely right after I brought her home. She'll just look frozen stiff, but will immediately relax and act normal when I reach toward her.

Manzi is sometimes in a daze also. His eyes are wide open, but he doesn't react like he normally does. I notice this when I come in the room after being out for awhile or if the light was off. I found out that it is because he was sleeping/napping. It just takes him a second to wake up, even though his eyes are open.
If I put him to bed too late, then by the morning he doesn't call as soon as he sees me and he is in a daze when I take the cover off.

I also notice that when he had just woken up, his feathers are slightly puffed up around his head and the skin around his eyes seems a bit pink.

Ok, this sounds dumb, but I've often wondered if they can sleep with their eyes open or something like that. Or maybe they just are in a daze. Kinda like when we space out and someone talks to you and you're just like "DUH!" and you don't even hear them. Hmmm. Baby does the "daze" too. And after calling her a few times, she'll finally look at me with this "What do you want??" look! Like I've interrupted her daydreaming!

I can always tell if our Charlie has just woken up, because his eyes are EXACTLY like us Humans, when we first wake up. Small, puffy and sleepy.
