He is nervous and many Greys are like this to start with. What colour are his eyes? At 10 months they will probably be grey, not all black and not pale yellow. The dark tips to the tail feathers also indicate a young bird. Do you know if he is a Congo or a Timneh African Grey - Congos have black beaks and bright red tails, Timnehs have a pale area on the beak and much duller tails. Congos vary in size so maybe you have a large one and that is why you were told he was a Jumbo.

Resham,
You have to be patient with Tango, you've had him a very short time, and if he has been mistreated before you got him, you will really need to let him learn to trust you in his own time. Don't force the issue.
They are such intelligent birds, and you will eventually get as much love from him as you give him.
Hang in there, be patient, kind, and consistent. Reward his good behaviour with treats from your hand or in the bars of his cage.

hi resham patience is the only key to success in case of cags. dont try to get closer if he doesnt like it by the time he will get used to of you and be your friend.

Hi , Im new to this forum and so happy to find other people with Greys. I have a CAG named Abby although she would correct you and say "Abigail" I have adopted her and have had her for 5 months now. She is a plucker and a bit neurotic. She is 8 years old. It takes time with these beautifull children. She is just comming out of her shell- she does not like to be by herself and lets you know it. Just give your bird time and he or she will warm up to you .

Hello Resham. I just wanted to let you know you're not alone. We purchased Chivalry at the pet store (PetSmart to be exact) where he had spent the first few months of his life being poked at by stupid children who don't know how to respect that kind of thing. When we brought him home, he was very agressive for the first few weeks, but quickly bonded to me and has since known that my word is law and that I am the one he can turn to for attention. Really all it takes is to show them that you are there to be their friend, make sure they have everything they need (which it sounds like you've done a great job) and I'm sure that he will come around.

Well as u know bird here in Saudi Arabia are mistreated as a result they hate any1 coming towards them. Same here in Riyadh. U go close to these greys and they try to bite u. And u shud also remember that in this country the majority of the birds are wild. as africa is really close to saudi Arabia ppl just import them from Africa so they are wild, as a result they will growl at u. But be patience and treat him properly he will like u.

He is probably still settling down. Keep offering him a variety of food, or try something such as mashed sweet potato, or human baby food on a spoon (vegetable or fruit puree types).

It sounds like you are doing everything you are suppose to be doing.... Rosey was the same way and after 3 months has just started to become my very close friend... With a lot of patience your baby will warm up also.... I sat beside her cage for about a month just trying to talk to her without touching her. One of the ladies or gents on this board also gave me a good idea which worked great for me.... Feed her/him warm food off of a spoon... Rosey absolutely loves mashed potatoes and I can do anything to her or with her after giving her mashed potatoes or warm veggies off of a spoon.. ;D
