Hello Guys, I just adopted a 5 year old female CAG 3 weeks ago.. Buddy, she was named first then sexed. Would it be appropriate to change her name down the road? Since she calls herself buddy? I am currently calling her Rose Bud... She is a great little bird once I get her out of her cage... In the 3 weeks I had her, we are making great progress together.... She talks up a storm. My question is when I go to feed her or get her to step up.... She say "be gentle, no biting ;D then grabs my finger and bites but does not really hurt or break skin... When I go to change her food bowls she lunges at the cage and says no biting, be gentle and laughs at me... Little Stinker.... I have been sitting by her cage daily talking to her and we are sharing warm veggies together... Which has worked great in getting her close to me... When going in the cage to get her to step up she will fluff up her neck, head feathers and put her head down... A few days ago was the first time I was allowed to scratch her neck... She got all excited and almost lost her footing and said WOW... Am I doing all the right things so far? It has been awhile since I lost Zane which I had for 15 years to the ex and found this site and absolutely love it... My favorite thing she does is in the morning when I am getting ready for work she will say... You Going to Work.... You can see a picture of her at www.caringbridge.org/page/tiffanie

I think you should keep her name as she knows it, but you can always call her Rose Bud as well, it is similar enough. Mitzi sometimes calls Monty by his full name of Montague. Sharing food is always a good idea for creating a bond and it sounds as if things are coming along really well so yes, I think you are doing all the right things.

Pete goes so far with what you describe, he even scolds himself while grooming his feet. "OW! no biting Pete"
