OK......I know this is weird but here goes. I have seen a million pictures of AGs on their backs. In the pictures they seem to be really enjoying themselves. Is this a learned or natural behavior? My "Crackerjack" will not tolerate me trying to turn him over......in fact he bit me quite hard to show his displeasure. Any advise on how to get him to do it on his own? dawn

I have heard of Greys going on their backs of their own accord but neither of mine actually do. Mitzi lets me put her on her back and we play various games, but it also has a serious side because one of the "games" is inspecting her feet. She knows the difference between the real games and the "inspecting her feet game" and she won't stay on her back for as long when it is the latter but she loves another game where she lies on her back and grabs hold of a fleece as if she is in bed! Monty doesn't like to go on his back at all.

Joshua goes over on his back, when he's dangling down trying to see me from his platform and I am watching telly underneath him. He holds onto the side of the cage, though, with one foot and stretches.
He also goes upside down when I am at the computer and he is on my shouder and wants attention, he rolls down my front and lands on my hands upside down, and likes to have his cere and and the back of his head stroked while he lies there with his feet in the air.
He also lets me put him upside and blow on his tummy.
I think the only context when it is done in nature is when babies are playing and/or adults are fighting. But I'm not certain.

I just tried doing that to Trinie yesterday. My first attempt ended up with nip to the hand. The second attempt was 90% successful. He was standing on my left, after giving him a treat I rested my right hand on his back then while I spoke to him, I quickly flipped him over. He stayed om his back without any struggle but would not release his grip from my left hand and hung on for dear life. I did it several times more but couldn't get him to relax enough to let go his claws. I guess it will take time for him to become more at ease.

Thanks for your funny stories! They are such characters! Sounds like it might be mostly a personality thing! Crackerjack is so layed back at most things.......maybe I'll try again another soon! Hopefully we won't have a repeat of that bite!
