How are they the same - how are they different. Which would you own if you could and why??
Can you please give me the positives and negatives?

I believe that cockatoos, certainly the Umbrella Cockatoos, Moluccan Cockatoos and the Sulphur Crested Cockatoos are much more demanding even than African Greys and require a great deal of constant attention. Cockatoos are also noisier and more destructive. Cockatoos and Greys both produce a lot of dust. Talking potential is not as good as Greys. Lifespans are similar.

When I went to the parrot breeders, i went with the intention of getting a cockatoo, but when I got greeted with a little bundle of skin, bone, very few feathers, a big black beak and huuuge big black eyes, i immediately fell in love with the grey. I still read up on both and alot is mentioned how demanding cockatoos are in their owners time and how they require/need lots and lots and lots of personal attention. I found that when comparing the behaviours of cockatoos and greys, greys are more independent than cockatoos. I found that it would not be good for the cockatoo to leave it to go to work as it would pine and miss you lots, whereas in the Grey, they will be quite happy to do their 'own thing' in their cage (obviously not all cockatoos are the same and some cockatoos may well feel happy left on their own!). I settled with Mylo because when I saw him as a baby at 3 or 4 weeks, I knew he was mine! Jane made me larf about 'too's being more destructive than greys....... you obviously havent seen my place!!! or rather Mylo's place!

I dont agree with african greys being better in speaking capability, We had a bare eyed cockatoo whos voice was much clearer than our african greys. I think cockatoos are much more louder than african greys though.
