Chivalry always dries off on his own. We generally put him back in his cage where he feels safe and then he can dry off fine.

Okay so check this....
My mom has a Hawk head, and she ABSOLUTLY HATES getting sprayed with a bottle, Hates the shower, will sometimes get soaked in a large bowl of water but her preferred method for showering is by bush & hose! Yes I said BUSH & HOSE! My mom was watering one day with her two birds perched outside with her like they do all the time.... Down off her perch comes little miss Tia, walks over to the bushes my mom is spraying with water and starts jumping and flapping up against them to get the water on her she will do this for about 10min. then when she is done walk back over to her perch climb up and start preening herself. It's the funniest thing to watch...

They can be trained as babies to accept a bath. It is important that you do it in a playful and enjoyable manner. Also it must be on a consistent routine avoiding long periods without baths.
Something I discovered and it seemed to work. Whenever I am reading, I would ly on the couch and encouraged Trinie to stand on my stomach. One day, I was taking a bath and took Trinie with me. I set the water temperature (slightly warm) and had it running. I then lay into the tub, placed Trinie on my stomach and started reading my book. He became nervous when the water started creeping up to his feet and he tugged my finger and the book with his beak. At this time, I quietly spoke to and patted him, turned the water off after it reached his leg feathers and started singing "PAt a cake", snapping my fingers while doing it. After he calmed down enough, he joined in by flicking his beak into the water too, now and then, flap his wings and fluff his feathers. There are a few drawbacks though. 1) I dare not increase the water pass his breast bone. The good thing is, he allows me to pat his body with my wet hands and I can get him soaked this way. Care must be taken when doing this or feathers would adhere to your wet hands and is easily pulled off. 2) The first time he had pooped. Seems whenever he is panicky or nervous he does it. I just said to him "no" We have bathed twice more without any similar incident. 3) The water gets really cold very quickly. Brrr....Shiver. Well, I hope this works for you.

I will lidia, I used to have a picture on my phone... I will try and get one this weekend if I go over to my mom's... It is funny... you know how hawk heads are... they have those feathers that flair up around their head, so if you can just image those all soaked she looks like she has dred locks... it's SOOO funny....

I think he is whistling in the morning because he is looking forward to his bath, and he is quiet afterwards because he is young and it is tiring to preen so much! It is good that he eats afterwards, too. I wouldn't worry about it at all, it doesn't sound like there's anything wrong. Lidia

I don't think he hates his bath; he would make it very clear if he did.

If he hated his bath, he would run away from you and then charge you and try to eat the water bottle while saying go on get... Which Rosebud does... Got to love her though... I figured out the hard way she would rather have a bowl at the bottom of her cage because her previous owner used a spray bottle for punishment. She started this new thing... You going to work? I say yes, Dee going to work... She says, I am sorry.... Hurts my feeling and I do not want to leave then....

Hi everybody.
Mina also has water phobia, but my problem is that given that I am not her favourite person (she has bonded with my husband), I cannot experiment with different shower techniques you mentioned, because as soon as I try to do something different with her she stops letting me handling her and it takes a lot of time to conquest her trust again. I am only allowed to take her from her cage to her stand and back, If I do anything else, she gives me the pay off and I feel quite offended even If I do my best not to show her. My husband plays all kinds of tricks on her, and she still lets him handle her. He is not keen on washing her, cause that would be the best solution. Any advise??

Has your husband actually tried to give her a spray or a bath, or has he tried and she didn't like it, so that is why he doesn't want to do it? As Mina will let him do all sorts of things it would be better coming from him. Perhaps if he gets a bowl of water and puts some toys in it and makes a big game with Mina to get her used to the idea. Putting ice cubes in can help as well.

Hi Jane,
My husband has done it and she didn't really like it, but he does many things that she doesn't like (nothing cruel) but he teases her a lot in a loving way. I like the idea of the ice cubes, will tell him to give it a try.
Thanks as always.

Hi, everyone, long time no .. write.
Abby does this, too, and I had no idea it was so prevalent. Just after her shower, she takes a bath in her water bowl. I have no idea what that's about.
Generally, she hates the sprayer, but not the spray. Sometimes, she likes the shower. If only I could find a completely invisible and silent sprayer. I even tried the ones you pump air pressure into, and they only make a very small hiss and it still freaks her out. Maybe she thinks it's a snake. I have no idea. It's good to know that other birds do what she does. Of course, that's the most useful part of a forum like this, to me. Knowing my bird isn't any nuttier than the others!
