All,
I have a Congo African Grey of 2 1/2 months old, named Adaigo--see pic. to left:) Anyway, I am having no difficulties with the step-up techniques, which I practice with him daily in the morning for 20min. and evening for 20min. Occassionally, while I am training him and he is on his training "T" perch, he vigorously rubs his beak across the perch, my step-up hand, anything he can reach all while making little noises--not threatening, just chirps and baby noises. When this happens, it is a bit harder to train him because his attention is just not on me. Am I traing him too hard for his age? Or just too much? Frustration? Any ideas?
BTW-Adaigo's diet consists of pellets, but seed as treats and positive reinforcement while training. Also, I am using the Womack's "Bird tricks & Training DVD."
Thanks for any input,
Wgraham13

The beak rubbing is perfectly normal, they all do it. Training in short sessions is the best way so I don't think you need to worry that his attention isn't on you all the time during these sessions. He seems to be doing well.

Ok, good to know, thanks for the head's up! I have one more question, Adaigo is saying "Hello" everytime I walk into his room after not seeing him all day while I am at work. He puffs up, shakes his tail and says "Hello" in a deep voice? Do Greys normally start speaking at 2 1.2 months old?
Thanks again,

They start at different times, some sooner (Mitzi started at 5 months) some later. The average is around a year so Adaigo is an early starter. Congratulations!

Well, it is about time that I had a bit of luck getting a good bird. We have gone through two different parrots/parakeets to get to the CAG. First, the Quaker Parrot--good for some, not me--LOUD and bit everyone he came in contact with! Second was Alexandrian Parrot/Parakeet, again, good for some, not me--Biters, parakeet. So I am happy to finally have a lovable, cuddleable, little talker.
