Hi,
This might sound like a very "novice" question, but how sensitive are greys to temperature change? I know that Jane had said that the average african grey's body temperature is around 104 degrees, but how do they react to hot and cold? I am asking because my fiance plays softball games quite often in the summer and I think it would be a lot of fun and a great way to socialize Pearl if I took her with me. I am looking into purchasing a bird harness, one called a "feather tether." How do you feel about those? Do you think that is it cools off a little while we're at the game that she'll catch a cold or something? She is very sweet to me, but is it a good idea to expose her to the outdoors and so many other people in one go? I would never let others pet her if she seemed too agitated, but like I said, it would be fun to let her out of the house and see new things. Thanks for your input!

They can cope with gradual temperature changes so if you take her outside on a warm day and it gradually gets a bit colder she should be okay. Draughts are bad for them. Harnesses are quite a challenge, some birds will wear them, others won't. If you can get one on her you can try taking her outside somewhere quiet to start with, to let her get used to the idea of being outside.

I've seen people walking around with thier Greys on thier shoulders! Silver doesn't have her wings clipped but I would love to take her outside! I can't see her wearing a harness though! In the summer, I take her cage outside if I'm sitting in the garden. She sit there quite happily talking to all the neighbours and all the other birds!

Little Bella hates her harness. I have her wings clipped, though, and she doesn't even try to fly when she's outside...she's too busy trying to figure out what grass is!
When I take her out, she seems to be fine until the wind picks up...then she shivers a little, so I bring a towel or blanket to wrap her up in when she's cold.
What a great idea! I might have to bring Bella to a game, although I'll have to watch out for stray balls...
