Ok, he hasn't done this in a while, so the feathers are beginning to grow back, but my Congo grey would sometimes hang upside down, resting his left side against the bars of the cage, and stretch his left wing down the length of the bars and then chew off bits of his feathers... until I would catch him and distract him from doing it. It seemed like he wanted my attention, so I tried ignoring him, and I also tried giving him more attention throughout the day so as not to encourage the behaviour when he was doing it.
Like I said, I haven't seen him do it in a while and I haven't really seen any signs that his is doing it when I'm not noticing, but I wonder if any one else's grey has acted in this manner before.

Lily has been plucking and chewing feathers for the last couple of months. She looks very shaggy. I have been to the vet twice. He has given her new pellets to try incase it is a nutrient problem. Then he took tests and says she is physically fine. Now it is a matter of figuring out what is bothering her. Has something changed in the household, etc? I cannot pinpoint anything yet. I am trying new toys to keep her busy as recommended by the vet also in hopes she will stop asap. Time will tell. Picking and plucking seems to be a part of a sensitive bird's life I guess. I have no idea why as Lily is so friendly and cuddly and playful and chatty still. Everything seems fine except the way she looks now. It is frustrating and sad to see her so scraggily. I just hope she stops and her feathers will grow bck so I will have my pretty baby back again soon. I have been wondering what Sonya The Pet Psychic would say. Hmmmmmmmmmmm
