Do any of you use any special treats while training your bird (if you train your bird)? I'm needing ideas for a quick treat, so far Oak's has been a little picky with the stuff from the bird store, and when I give him some grapes (his favorite and most responsive) it takes forever for him to eat!!
Thanks

I have tended not to use treats during training, I use praise. (Yes I know, I am mean!)
Have you tried giving him just tiny bits of grape, I think the use of treats is intended to leave them longing to get the next bit, rather than having a large amount each time. I think little bits of pinenut can also be used in training because they are a treat.
I do sometimes use treats as bribes though and I find little bits of biscuit work well.

Oakley is so picky he only eats the inside of a grape *L* I've tried to break it down but it still takes him so much time to eat because he's picking all the inside off the skin, he's such a stinker!!
I think I may just stick to praise as well. I just never knew if this would be effective, but if it's worked for you!! Thanks Jane....

Hello!!
Right now Cochi and I are playing with his vocal skills. By accident one day, we were playing ( he makes noises and I mimic him, and then I make a new sound and he mimics me) and I noticed that after he would copy me; he would drop his head and I say to him "AHHHHHHH pretty" and he fluffs up his feathers and I rub his feathers up to his beak. Well, I started using that as his treat. Now when he copies a sound I make all I have to say is AHHHHH pretty and he drops his little head to be rubbed. Cochi's favorite thing in the world is to have his neck and head scratched by mom. Maybe you could use this as a training treat? Have a great day!! Laura and Cochi

I agree with pine nuts, our birds go goofy for them. If you watch closely, birds will not eat the skin of anything. They always draw out the center and discard the rest. Peas, string beans, corn etc.
