A pet store I shop at has a love bird that was born with a birth defect. His neck in not straight. She wants it to go to a good home and I may be willing to take it however I will become attached to it, God knows that. I am wondering what you all think. Right now the bird eats well and seems ok but I and wondering if down the road if he will have a hard time eating? Also even with clipped wings not sure what will happen if he attempts to fly he did try once and did manage to get down but again I don't want him to break his neck. I would like him to have a good home but do not want to invest alot of money in vet bills and I hope that does not sound harsh however the bird will not get better with the problem he now has at a very young age. He is weaned and ready to go to a home. By the way I am not sure how she ever got it from the breeder. Please feedback.
Also does anyone know anything about Myers Parrots?

I would think that if there were no eating problems now, although crooked, the neck would grow with the bird and continue to be clear enough to eat. Flying and landing is probably the same as with a normal bird as far as risk is concerned. How much you spend on medical attention is not a measure of love in my eyes, we would all give a million dollars to save our pets, but priority and practicality have to be factored in. I don't have any experience with a meyers, but I think that any quality of life you can help to improve for as long as it lasts is much better than the present situation. Most likely be a great bird for 20 years! I (we) have committed to give the best quality to our birds for as long as they live, I hope we are never faced with a decision involving how much is too much in sickness or injury, but that's the chance you take... I say go for it!! ;D

From what I've read about Myer's parrots, they're supposed to make wonderful pets. I considered one myself before I adopted Nikko. They are typically quiet and friendly little birds.
