I got an email from my local dog club that "Blessing of the Animals" is Oct. 4. Check around to see if your local Catholic Church is doing anything special (you don't have to be Catholic to get your animal blessed). From what I've read, they say a prayer and sprinkle your pet with holy water. There's a Catholic Church just down the street from me that's holding a ceremony in their courtyard, so I think I'll take Nikko and Spencer (my pup). Ought to be interesting, to say the least.

The blessing is just the sign of the cross on the forehead with Holy Water. I'm sure the Priest will just sprinkle the animals in fear of drawing back a nub that was once a finger, LOL.

I used to go to that at my grandmother's church eeeevery year. So, check Episcopal churches, too, if you're looking. The priest here would lay hands on the ones who were friendly enough, and say a short prayer, or 'hover' hands on the ones that weren't. It was fun, and mostly something the kids did and got a kick out of seeing each other's pets. Saw tarantulas, horses, goats, all kinds of stuff... but my favorite had to be the little like 3 year old with the pet cricket. >^.^<

I just read in the paper yesterday that one of the local Lutheran churches is having a blessing of the animals. We're all Buddhists in this house, though. Maybe if I'm lucky I'll come back as a parrot.

I live in a retirement community with my parents . People here pamper their pets to the extreme. Somebody at the dog park said that when they die, they want to come back as a dog in Sun City West.

Well, Nikko and Spencer got blessed . It was fun! Nikko represented all birds, because she was the only one there. It was mostly dogs, and a couple cats. My dad, always running late, said he would meet us there with the camera. He was too late, of course, so he took Spencer to the end of the line to get blessed a second time so he could get a picture. Poor Nikko missed out on a picture of the actual blessing. Nikko had a blast though. She danced to the music, and whistled and blew kisses. She just loves getting out and about. Now that we're home, she's still all bouncy and happy.

That sounds good. Shame about the photo, it would have been nice to see that.

Really neat idea. we have those birds here, but they are white, and I think they are called Herrings.

I didn't either! what "draws a vacuum" is: she's right. Kinda like a friend of mine who's last name is Trout, He'll answer to "Fish" faster than his proper name.
