I bought a cheap microphone from walmart for about $8. Microsoft already comes with a simple recording program. Record a short file, save it and then you can play it on window media player on repeat. As long as you record without much time left before and after the word you want repeated, it repeats very quickly. If your computer is near your bird, like in my case, then you can just leave the computer on while you are gone.

I thought of doing the same thing with Frankie... do you have luck with just having one word repeat over and over or a few different words in the loop? I'd like to leave it on when I'm at work - but I'm afraid he'll go nuts or be really stressed out. Maybe I'm just projecting my own feelings - but hearing the same thing on loop for hours would drive me crazy!

At first I just put in one word. But now I leave three phrases in the loop. I don't blast it either, but definitely play it loud enough for him to hear clearly. It takes a couple of days for him to repeat the phrases. Manzi still isn't that clear, but he gets clearer after each time I play the recording.
