I'm interested in adding a new African Grey to my family. I understand this will be a big undertaking on my part but I'm willing to put forth the effort. I simply cannot wait to find the right bird.
Any pointers y'all could give me for choosing my new addition would be helpful! ;D

Making the decison is the first step! Congratulations!!! My first grey was adopted from a rescue...he is as sweet as can be and I adopted him because I felt sorry for him...he had been pretty much ignored for a couple years resulting in plucking...ends up he is a very sweet, talkative guy that just adores my husband. Our second one is my fault!!! I fell in love with him when he was about 8 weeks old and would trip over himself to get to me at the bird store...he may have done this for EVERYONE but it hooked me! It's not just a "bird store" they take excellent care of their babies, are very knowledgable and helpful...not a chain store so I knew he would be a very healthy, happy bird...and Elby sure is that!!!

Hello and welcome to the forum. Are you thinking of getting a baby or an older Grey?

Jane, I was kind of hoping for a baby but would love to rescue one. I am devoted to spending lots of time no matter what the situation. I just haven't had much luck finding any in VA as far as rescues go.

Check your local animal shelters. Put an ad on Petfinders.com or Birdsnways.... There is one in Arlington VA not sure how close that is to you... But if your go on Petfinders.com and put your zip code in it will give you the closets shelters to you.... All 6 of mine are adopted and love everyone of them....

Deneen, Thanks for the advice about adoption. A member of the Phoenix Landing is supposed to contact me next week for a home visit. I'm so excited...hope I pass their test. I'm such a novice at this but eager to learn everything I can! A little anxious too about them coming by and inspecting everything. Any pointers you can give me? What to expect when they come by and so forth? thanks!
