Are cockatiel eggs hatched about 2 weeks ago. 4 out of the 5 eggs hatched, which is amazing because that was there first liter. Anyways, one of the babies is alot smaller than the other 3. They all are 1 day apart. And the 3 have all caught up in[glow=red,2,300][/glow] size. I was wondering if it was possible that the mom and dad rejected the one smaller little baby. And maybe it isnt getting fed. Any info would be much appreciated.

Yes! They will choose the strongest ones within their ability to feed them. Your going to have to keep plenty of food in that cage to allow them to feed 5 mouths (water also). If you want the "runt" to live your going to have the pull it from the parental cage. Feedings are about every 15 minutes for several weeks and then it will get more distant. They will allow that chick to starve to death because they can't feed them all. Make your decision fast or the male will kill it.

So do you think that's why he is so small? It also seems like the baby won't get close to the others either. When I checked out there just a few minutes ago the baby does have food in it's belly. But he is very small compared to the others.???Thanks Preston.

4 chicks for two birds is a ton of work for the parents, they will cull the weak or sick. It sounds like in your case they are trying to do their best , it is just the runt of the litter and can't fight for position. We had a white faced that was 1/3 bigger than the other two, and it was taking all of the food. I saw Smokey bash his beak into his head just before bed time, and feed the other two much smaller birds. The white faced chick was dead next morning, I wish I'd have removed the bird. If your going to breed birds, you have to accept the laws of nature or interceed, which takes hours; it's feed time every 15 minutes for quite awhile. home.chilitech.net/~pstone/babies.htm This is what a healthy Lutino Cocateil looks like; notice the crop as they have just have been fed. P.S. Pics please!!
