John, they are totally adorable!
I saw a white capped (headed?) caique in the bird store the other day - it was priced at $2200. The BHC's aren't as pricey up here, but close. This white capped guy was soooooooo sweet. He just wedged his head around the bars of his cage and let me preen the pin feathers on his head. ((((love)))).
I recently added 2 finches (silver Javas) to appease my MBS. With a full time job, 2 dogs (one elderly and with special needs), 3 cats, 2 parrots and a boyfriend who claims he needs attention from time to time, I just can't manage another parrot. At least, that's what I told myself. Over and over and over.
Enjoy the little devils. They are so charming!!

Uh Oh, I definitely have the symptoms of MBS. I can't stay away from the bird store, because I still have to visit the AG babies to let one pick me so I can bring it home. I still have to go there and get seed and I always, always, always have to look at the new birds they have. Like today, there were a pair of Jenday Conures, hand-fed and they were only $349 ea.!!! Guess what I'm thinking...hmmmm you're wondering, aren't you? NOT !!! I think I'm well on my way to full-blown MBS.

Traci I was looking for more Amazons and I found Caiques. Now you bring home an Amazon and make me want another one. I have not seen many Amazons for sale here which in probably a good thing.
For now I am happy I have a good flock that is very entertaining.

John,
I gotta tell you... My mom has a black headed caique and they need LOTS AND LOTS of toys to play with... That setup that you have is VERY bare for caiques.... I hope you will add more toys for them. My moms bird also ABSOLUTLY LOVES MEAT and Fruit. Please also keep in mind that because these birds are sooooo high active that they need FOOD constantly.... They are always eating because the burn so much just from playing...
Hope that helps you! Good luck with your babies.

Thanks Amanda. I have been adding toys and I do keep them fed. They eat as much as my Grey. Single Caiques do need more things to keep them busy but when kept in pairs the play together. I have added toys since that pic was taken, that pic was from the first day I set up their cage. I buy or make new toys weekly for all my birds. They spend alot of time out of their cage since I am home most of the day. They are very active and very entertaining, I don't need TV any more I have Caiques to watch...LOL
I just ordered a book on Caiques and it should be here on Tuesday. I am also a member of a Caique forum and I am doing as much reading on them as I can.
