After talking to people and meeting a few birds (from the african grey and a 3 different type of cockatos LSC, Umbrella, and Molucan) and I've decided that a female umbrella cockatoo is the bird that suits what i'm looking for in a bird.

You're not afraid of all the negative information and horror stories about Cockatoos on that site discouraging bird ownership?

Hi Pitman I've been following your posts for quite a while now...I can't help thinking that a cockatoo is the last type of bird that would work for you...of course, you would know best. Please keep in mind that all the reasons you decided against taking on the rescue Goffins a while ago will still be present in any U2 you bring home. I appreciate your quest for information on each of the animals/birds that you have considered purchasing but I can't help feeling concerned about your decision on this one. Regardless, keep us posted and good luck

OK now I have not seen all of the post on this one but about 8 weeks ago I did get a umbrella cockatoo, ready set go... Has already chewed on the kitchen counters, the walls, and corners. LOL And Yes she is very loud. I have 6 quakers and together they are not as loud as she is and they also do a lot of screaming. This bird is 6 years old and has never bonded to anyone so she would go to anyone looking for the right home, I am her 3ed and she is staying here with me. She has now bonded to me, protects me from any one and every one including hubby. But she is still letting him pet her and that is it. She chases him to get him out of the kitchen if I am in there, he does not go to show her who is boss but he does not go in there without shoes if she is out of her cage. She has bite me a couple of time pretty bad already and pulling as she was biting on my hand trying tp pull me away from my husband also. So all I can say is beware.. And this one is very will behaved.. LOL

Wow, I had fostered a UC from the local pet store rescue after thinking of adopting one... Tim allowed me to foster her until the new adopted parents returned from vacation after explaining to me why so many of them are up for adoption, why a Cockatoo would not be right for me after owning 2 grays.. ... I fostered her for 3 weeks at the beginning of December. Let me just say this. Although she was a gorgeous bird with a very split personality she required a lottttt of attention, screamed constantly and I had to spend every waking minute with her....
My girl Rosebud tells me what he wants and hardly ever screams, is happy just hanging out with me or following me around the house.... Lidia or Preston where is that cockatoo link? If one of them would link you too that it is exactly them and what they sound like 24-7.....

I can hear the U2 that I work with from the street corner...very clearly...at least 200 yards away from the house. He is situated in the very back of the house, behind 3 closed doors, too. It's crazy! I love him...I love working with him but dear-me-oh-my I would never in a million years bring him home with me. I am a firm believer that Toos belong only in the wild and in an aviary situation if in captivity at all (for those of you with wonderful U2 pets...good onya!). BTW - I am the only person this U2 will stop screaming for. The secret??? I whisper to him...and bring walnuts

That's the one, it reads like a horror novel. I have never seen one in the feather, and only know of one that was on a TV show (Baretta). If you can hear them in a closed building from 200 yards away, DAMN!
The last I talked to Pitman in IM, he said his parents nixed the Too, and was looking for another parrot.

If I were Pitman I would probably consider a Eclectus over all others.
Actually, if I were Pitman I would take home that Sugar Glider.

I just looked at that site and when that bird screamed all my birds got quiet. I read the whole article about Too's and don't think I would ever own one. Lots of other useful information on that site too.

those two birds that you hear screaming at the opening of mytoos.com are 2 WILD molucanns the loudest known bird. Believe me I've read every story and horror story and almost every post on there. And been to many other websites. It all depends on how a bird is raised i know plenty of quiet U2s and super loud amazons. When I went to Bird Paradise the other day they have everything from finches to macaws and I heard every bird yelling and screaming and the most annoying one was the Amazons the U2s scream to me wasn't bad at all and believe me they were hootin and hollerin and there was 7 of them. I would get a grey but i want a bird that the whole family could hold and pet and stuff. I looked in to others like the suns, caiques, and pionus but I want a bigger bird.

Not all greys are one-person birds. My TAG will go to me, my mom, and my dad. He even went to my annoying 10 year old cousin who he had never met before. He lets both my mom and me scratch his neck, and would probably let my dad too (my dad kind of keeps his distance from Nikko so as not to make the dog jealous).

I know you have done your homework pitman, but few members here have experience with other parrots. We have spoke between ourselves, and I just don't know how to help. The answers here are of research and not experience, we don't know. Let us know what you get and we will help research any questions if you have if any.
