For those that are not familiar with them- the Vasa parrot is native to Madagascar, quite rare in captivity (not very pretty) and on the endangered species list. They are considered one of the most prehistoric of parrots and are a close relative of the African Grey. "Ugly" black/brown things about the size of a large Congo with some facinating breeding habits. Does anybody out there have any experience with the Vasa parrot as a pet? Has anybody had experience with a hand tame one? How about an aviary Vasa? Picture: www.avesint.com/images/3-01vasa.jpg

WOW, awesome find. Keep us up on your research. I haven't seen a bird that I didn't want since I've become a parrot head. LOL. Shoot, even a one legged wild bird in Jamaca ate half of my food in the open air dining room, poor lil guy. I have been shot by bird cupid, and I want them all; well at least feed them with outside feeders.

That bird is gorgeous! I love the little bald patch around its eyes, it is really quite elegant looking. I had never heard of this type before.

There was a couple of Vasas for sale at Stafford parrot show, I fell in love with them...they're so cute and seemed a lot calmer natured than the majority of the other birds there.

Yeah...apparently they are quite like the AG but a little goofier and more playful. Their intelligence is thought to rival an AG's as well...I don't know how broad their speaking capabilities are yet though...there is so little information out there on them.

OMG! Chatty Cathy? What a blast from the past. My friends in college called my girlfriend Cathy that. Almost thirty years I had forgotten it until your post. I wonder if she ever stopped talking? Constantly!

Believe it or not, "chatty cathy" is a term used regularly in my household. We're kinda weird though
