I found these facts at this site: www.smallbirdrescue.org/An estimated 900,000 pet birds are bought & sold in the U.S. yearly
30% of these birds stay with their first owners for a year or more
35% of these birds do not survive the first year
Pet birds with a lifespan of 7-100 years reside in an average of 8 householdsWhat depressing numbers. Hopefully Nikko will have, at most, 3 homes in his lifetime. I'm his second home, and if he outlives me, he has to go back to the bird rescue until a new home is found.

That's the depressing part of Grey ownership. They may just out live us. Andi is 4 1/2 months old and I am 48 years old. I'm teaching my Daughter to understand her to make the transfer easier. This buys her 30 more years providing my Daughter has my passion for birds. All told this will make Andi somewhere around 50 which I think is a more realistic life span than the 70 I have read about. If I go and she doesn't want her the instructions are: GIVE her to someone that really wants to have one.

Traci, you sound like my Mom! She currently has 42 birds- I kid you not ;D!! She's becoming a breeder, though- I suspect I will inherit them one day! Good thing for her and her birds, I adore them, and feed them all baby food every night! I enjoy it, and it's good nutrition. Takes a long time every night, though! She currently has: pair CAGs 2 Pair Eclectus pair scarlet macaws pair blue and gold macaws 6 pair assorted amazons (including Venacious!) 6pair assorted conures pair black-capped caiques pair patagonians the rest is love birds galore! I personally have my 2 CAGs, and they are the light of my life! I look forward to going home to them every day!

Chivalry's not allowed to out-live me. I got him when I was 20, and he's only supposed to live 60-80 years. I'll just have to make sure I outlast him so I can take care of him!
