Hi All, Just wondering, does anybody have any experience with Umbrella Cockatoo's? I have been considering adding one to my home... They are so different, from what I have seen, from Kenny.... I love kenny, he is a clown and my baby and I do not want to harm that friendship , but the Umbrella's appeal to me as well... ;D Any advice?

when i was at home and a lot younger my mum had a u2 , i have a cag and a amazon now and belive me they are easy put to wards u2 , they are more demanding than most and need constant attention, very easily upset and annoyed and above anythig else very distructive and noisey. But they are also very loving and cuddly and beutiful birds. Saying that though i think my amazon thinks hes a u2 as he is just the same with noise and mess lol. good luck in what ever you decide.

Hi,
I own a U2 or should I say he owns me. These birds require time and patience. ALOT OF TIME AND PATIENCE. They are like children and they live about 70 yrs.
Please think very long and hard and do a lot of study, before you decide on one of these beautiful creatures. I thought I was prepared and had waited for years before I made the move. No one can tell you how much attentions and care they require and it should be forever. That's a long time to have anything in your life, let alone a bird.

Hi Guys,
I have been offline for a while, I have a friend who has a 9 year old, so I have spent a fair bit of time around hers... I know what the demands are that way, I am home full time working from a home office a few hours a day, so thats not an issue... I was wondering about others experiences to see if they are different from Snowby, or if he is a good example of what to excpect.
I have been researching a few breeds, and the other breed I really like, is the much smaller Hahns Macaw. I am looking to add another bird to my home and waiting to find just the right one!! It may be a while because this will be my limit, and I want to be very, very sure.
I also have a young neighbor, 13 years old, very responsible young man who works on his dads farm, who is looking at owning a bird. I have loaned him several magazines with different breeds... He is really not sure, he has never owned a bird before, any suggestions for a great started bird?? This young lad is also paying for it himself with his summer money from working on the Farm, so price will weigh in.
Thanks,
Laura

If your 13 year old neighbour has never owned a bird before, a cockatiel is a good "starter" bird. These are great little birds, they are gentle, affectionate and playful, can make loving individual pets and they are relatively easy to feed and care for.

I second that. Cockateils are lovely birds. I had one for 8 years. He was a lovely companion. I would love to get another but my house is getting a bit busy now with two parrots and a cat !!!

And I third it! I had a gorgeous cockatiel when I was a teenager, and she used to sit on my mother's lap and try to help her knit! It was sooooo cute.

cockatiels are good. but in my aviary i found my chattring red lories to be the best companion. they are completely restless and makes a lot of noise and do different tricks. they get friendly if you offer them fruit with ur hands they cant resist fruit.

goffin is a nice bird and small as well. i think its the smallest bird in the cockatoo family. but no doubt they are wonderful and active and cute. i am planning my self to get a pair of goffin.

We are getting our Goffin end of September. He will then be 5 weeks old. I specially asked to take him home while he still needs feedings, cause in my opinion they bond better. I will keep you inform when the new baby arrives.
