I have a cherry head conure and would like to also purchase an african grey. Iam not sure if they could be in the same cage or separate and if they could be together how big should the cage be? Also. what is the lifespan of conures and african greys

Hi Petra, I don't think it would be a good idea to mix species in one cage. We have 6 parrots in seperate cages except for two C.ockatiels in one cage. I have read all kinds of lifespans on Greys, and the average seems to about 50 years. Always by as large a cage as you have room for or afford.

I do not think it is a good idea to put different birds in the same cage either, especially a conure and a grey. They have very different personalities. I believe greys live to around 50 but conures are more in the region of 15 to 20 years. I don't know what it is specifically for Cherry Headed conures.

I just looked into adopting a Jenday Conure and an Amazon that share the same cage. The shelter will not seperate the two cause they have been together for so long. I really think this is up to the birds, but I would put them in seperate cages and let them mingle on there own time. I have 5 that all live in the same room and have access to each other and have found a way to be happy as one big family. They don't play together though. I am working on this one.
Don't know how long a conure will live but as onoury as he is hope he is around for a while. We love him.

I'd be too afraid. I had a parekeet who was part of our flock of tiels, but he was an exception. We've had our CAG about a month. My little Sun thinks she's a big bird and will try to get in his face and I get bit by her trying to put my arm between the two of them. I really don't trust him around the tiels either, one flew too me and moved too fast and he snapped at her. My arm got the snap, didn't hurt but it was enough pressure that he could have hurt the tiel.

I would not put them together unless they are very young like still being hand feed. After that it is up to them if they are going to get along.. I know most of mine do not, not even the quakers I have and I have 6 of them and only 2 are together. So I have 11 birds and 9 cages. The tiels are together also..
