I need some help with a situation. I am scheduled to pick-up my new grey Friday. He is 2 years old. As it turns out I will be leaving town the following Wednesday - Sunday and will need to board him while I am away!
Do you guys feel this will be too much for him? I am concerned that this will be too much for him! Any thoughts?
Oh yeah, the family that has him now will be leaving town as well, so they would be boarding him as well!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

How used to changes is he, has he had other times during his life when he has been boarded and how did he take it? I am wondering if it might be better to board him from the Friday through until Sunday rather than take him home for a few days then board him.

Sunny, check out this site: www.kookshop.com they seem to be of reasonable price to board your new guy. This is where I purchased Andi and the staff were both extremely friendly and knowledgable. (972)-492-0841 ask for John and tell them I sent you. They also have a webcam in their showroom to see the birds. They are at Frankfort and Josey in Carrollton. You too can pull the G W Bush cage trick and be a part of the club! LOL.

Jane Jane ~ He has been boarded before I am just concerned regarding the timing! I pick him up Friday and turn around and take him to the boarder Tuesday. My concern is this is too much change at one time! I live 4 hours from where he is now so taking him to the place where he normal boarded is not an option! Do you guys think this is too much stress? Preston, I thought you might have gotten Andi at that store! I love that place. I will check on boarding availability. My vet here in McKinney also offers boarding?!

You said that the family who have him now are leaving town as well and would have had to board him. Could they board him at his usual place, you delay getting him but then go and pick him up from there when you get back rather than taking him home for a few days and then boarding him. I think that might be unsettling for him.

That is a great idea, only they are leaving this weekend! My other option was to take him directly to be boarded and then picking him up when we get back. In other words not bringing him home at all or rather after we get back from out of town! That would be tough on me because I want him home, but whatever is best!

Then I would do that really, I just think if you had him home for those few days and then took him to be boarded it would be more unsettling for him.

OK, so I have a petsitter coming to the house! She is from our vets office and once I told her what was going on, she offered her services! So he will be home and taken care of here! YEAH! ;D

that sounds like a great solution but if he is mostly going to be alone and in a cage i would at least leave the tv on for him on a kids station like disney or nickolodeon so he doesnt pick up any bad words. you could even put it on a timer.

I think the option to leave him where he usually boards would be the least unsettling thing, so that he does not have to adjust four times to your situation in a very short period of time. That is, once to the house, once to your petsitter, and then to you when you return and finally to the petsitter leaving.
I know you're anxious to have him under your roof, but these intelligent birds can take a long time to settle down if they are too disturbed in the handover process.
