Hi, just wanted to introduce myself because I'm the new mommy of a 16 week old TAG. My name is Michelle Pipkin and I got my TAG "Harley" 8 days ago. We've had a rough start, as her breeder attempted to ship her to me one day-she got in the carrier, drove for hours and then Delta wouldn't fly her to me because it was too hot down here in South Texas. So the next day, she was put back in the carrier, drove several hours and put on Continental. So she was very confused, and it is taking a lot of work to get her to accept me at all. She lets me hold her now, a week later, but she still wants no part of me. She tolerates me, but doesn't "want' to be with me yet. I'm open to any new grey owner advice anyone has. She's only my second bird ever, I used to have a quaker ( I wanted a grey then, but could not afford one). Michelle

Hi Michelle & Harley, Welcome to to the board, I have my grey about 4 weeks now and she bit me for the first fews days, very hard too, but she got used to me and now there is no stopping her , she "steps up" has cuddles on my lap and lets me pet and sctratch her head, she still has moments were she will toddle off and go sit on my boyfriends lap, but she has accepted us both , so give harley a bit of time and i used a very soft voice and made kinda clicking sounds wil i was rubbing her head , she now makes these clicking sounds for me, when i scratch her head, Sue

Hi Michelle, Poor Harley, how traumatic for her! It's not surprising she is confused and not bonding with you. It will take time, especially after such a long and probably frightening journey. The fact that she lets you hold her is a good sign, and so long as you are patient, kind, friendly and consistent with her, she will probably come around. Take it at her pace, though. Don't try to speed it up if you see she is tolerating it. She will let you know when she wants more. Get her used to sitting on your hand or knee, give her lots of treats from your hand. Best of luck and keep posting in this thread to let us know how she's progressing. Lidia

Welcome to the forum. Yes that must have been an ordeal for poor Harley, making her unsettled. I am sure she will be fine in time. Try giving her some warm soft food as this is always good to help with bonding.
