ProBoards has announced an upgrade to Version 4. The official release date will be Saturday, April 30th, 2005. It is important to note that the upgrade can result in up to 24 hours of downtime of this forum. We hope to keep the downtime to a level much lower than this, but we can not make any guarantees for such a large upgrade. The servers will be upgraded to version 4 in groups, and therefore not all servers will be upgraded on the 30th. It may take up to a week before all servers are upgraded successfully to version 4. The most important change for you as user will be that your birthday will become a required field in the profile. As this board does not allow users under the age of 13, an age check will be in place which will remove accounts of users under this age. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! Thank you for using this board. Let's keep the parrots happy

Will all our current information be retained, numbers of posts for example, and current user name and password, or will we all be starting from scratch?
I don't see how the age check will work, surely under age people would just put in a false date of birth.

Hi Jane, No, nothing will disappear and all functionalities and information still will be available (and more will be added). Anyone who has a date a birth already listed in their profile that makes them younger than 13 will be automatically removed. Everyone else, whether they've filled out their date of birth or not, will be prompted for it the first time they log in after the transition. Of course children can lie about their age, but asking the age is just a legal obligation of this board. The Proboards Terms of Service and the agreement you agree to when you sign up says this. Also the federal COPPA prohibits any website to collect personal information from anyone under 13 without permission from the parents. This permission must be guaranteed in some written form. From the postings I have seen in this board, every participant is over 13 anyway. I expect no problems there

I'm still 21 too... so when the upgrade starts (expected somewhere this week), none of us will have any problems with the age check ;D
