Hi! My name is Keysha and I'm a first time Grey owner! My husband and I are from Arkansas, and just adopted our first Grey from part of my husbands family this week. The poor thing has never been socialized or played with so he is very nervous and is quite a biter. He's about fifteen years old, so I'm afraid it may take me a whie to get past all this. I've owned small birds my whole life but Fred is my first big Parrot. My husband can already mess with him, but all I can do is talk to him and he will take food out of my hand. If I try to touch him or get to close he bites, and I have to admit, that big ol' beak scares me!! LOL I'm dedicated to giving him a better and more fullfilling life though and I don't care how long it takes to earn his trust, I'm going to do it!! I am glad to meet other Grey owners who can help me with this new and exciting journey!! Here's the only picture of Fred that I have so far: By the way thats his travel cage, not his permanant one!!

Hello and welcome to the forum. If he will take food out of your hand that is a good start. Try not to be nervous, he will pick it up. Time and patience is always the key so you are certainly going the right way.

when i first got dory she did the same thing plus i was nervous about getting bit. i just kept feeding her out of my hand and talking to her i would take strawberries and take little bits off and let her pick it off the end of my finger and she loved it after a couple of weeks we both learned to trust each other now i can pick her up when i want and pet her all over.
