Generally speaking they can be nervous and will take a while to get used to new things. They like everything to be on their terms and can be strong willed. There are quite a few threads on the forum about their general characteristics.
With regard to being playful, they vary. Some enjoy playing games with their owners and enjoy being cuddled, some are more aloof. Some, like Monty, will play with a variety of toys and entertain themselves for hours. Others, like Mitzi, don't really play with toys much. They are very intelligent though and can learn to play with musical toys and wooden jigsaw puzzles.

I am also new. We are staying in South Africa and are breeding with CAG. Our first two babies are now 7 weeks old. We also have two Greys who owns the house. We must always take in mind that Greys are very intelligent creatures. They have the intelligence of a 5 year old child, but emotionaly they only develop up to a two year old child. So you will always have a very intelligent terrible two in your house. Like people they develop their own very strong personalities. They want a lot of love, good food(not only sunflower seeds), & stimulation. They like to chew so it is always good to have a few toys which they can destroy, fresh twigs are a winner. You will find that their taste in food change as they grow older. Things which they did not like in the beginning can become a favourite when they are older. Flossie, our first CAG, refused to eat apple when she was young, but now she loves it. You must be patient when you introduce your Grey to new food and toys because they are very alert and most of the times aalso nervous. due to their intelligence they are curious and would like to investigate new things. they get bored very easily. My other Grey, Zazoe, likes to open the cupboards to look what is inside. Strongs with the baby. You will love him and he will soon own you!
