Hi everybody I'm planning to get a african grey congo in a month or so. but i have a few questions about their shyness. I work in a fish store, about 4 days a week and im planning to bring him there everyday that im there, if he interacts with customers all day would he still be nervous and shy everytime he sees new strangers? or would he be outgoing like a amazon? the birdmart is comming up and im really into african greys. thanks!

Generally speaking, African Greys are nervous birds but they are all individuals and you might get one that is more outgoing. Timnehs are sometimes thought to be less nervous than Congos. The more socialisation they get at an early age the better.
I have read the following description about Greys versus Amazons: "If they were people, the grey would be the intellectual college graduate, while the Amazon would be the street smart, life-of-the-party type."

Hi Steve,
I have first hand experience about your question. Owner of a pet shop in my town also have African gray in his shop and you should hear him talking. It is one of the most insane parrots I've seen. He knows all routine with a customers by heart: "Good after noon! How much is this? By!" etc. I think that that gray is a very happy parrot so maybe your gray would like it too.

Cool! I actually was getting a Panama Amazon, the more rarer species, but then im afraid it might be the yellow crowned amazon, for me its hard to tell apart. Ive read all these stories about everybodys AG in this forum and it would probally make me happy having sun. Ive had parrots all my life, but never a AG. Friends always say, birds are stupid, lazy and boring, but when they come to my house and see my conures playing, their whole point of view on birds change. i love my birds.
