Hi I need some advice again, ;D My Sweetie, like to have a bath, and does not mine the shower spray at all. At the moment South Africa is in its winter months, so I cant let her play to much in water, as I'm scared she will catch cold. But the other day I was out at the Pet shop and saw lots of sprays for parrots. Sprays for scratching, sprays for all types of parrot problems (they called it an all in one), and more. Do I need to get any of these, there was also one for the cage as well. Are they a good idea or not. Also cleaning her cage, besides soap and water, any other substance I can use to really disinfect it and keep all funnies from thriving. chow Karen

Yes there are various sprays for the feathers and the cage. I sometimes use plain warm water to spray them, sometimes I have added aloe vera to it and I also have the Bath Time and Molt Ease spray (which contains aloe vera among other things).
The cage cleaners I have tried don't really seem to be much better than water and white vinegar. Vinegar is a good disinfectant, just add some to the water.

Hi
Thanks Jane will try the vinegar, didn't think of that.
Oh one other thing, the "white powder" they produce, all of a sudden Sweetie, seem to have lots. Is this OK. My hubby has Asama and I have noticed it affect him some evenings. I will try the water spray with aloe vera, I have some at home. Do you think this will calm the "powder down"?
Thanks Karen

Yes, Cockatoos are the heaviest producers of the powder but African Greys are probably next. Spraying can help but it is continually produced so it will always be there.

Some other safe disinfectants are Avicine, Grapefruit Seed Extract, and Oxyfresh.
You can try an air purifier for the dust. I have one of those ionic breezes by the sharper image, but someone on the board suggested using a filter of some sort over the back of a boxfan.

Thanks Spookyhurst
In SA we don't have air cons or insulated houses, and we don't get snow ect, so to use an extractor might be a bit of a mission to install, but the boxfan sounds interesting. Could you give me more info!
