Hi all, I have just come back from the breeder that is handfeeding my baby african which will be ready in 4 weeks now, although I had my heart set on a girl because I had heard they are friendlier i am probably totally wrong on that one ..... I am now wondering if there is any traits or difference's in behaviour between males and females, I am asking this cos i have been given first choice by the breeder of which bird I would like and I need some advice, the 2 males where a darker grey colour and the female was very pretty pale grey, but one of the male's is smaller and was very affectionate to me, I rubbed his head and he closed his little eyes and had a snooz... so now I am confused whether to go with my first thoughts of owning a girl or to go the the little male that stole my heart, any one got any thoughts on this ,thanks

I think they are all individuals so it isn't easy to say if girls are more friendly. Monty (male) is friendly and docile whereas Mitzi (female) is fairly moody and they are very different in personality. It is often said that a Grey will choose you rather than the other way around. I think I would probably go with my own instinct rather than choosing a bird because of its sex.

Joshua chose me while I was contemplating an amazon. I had wanted a brightly coloured bird, and a gregarious one, and it seemed that an amazon would fit that bill ... until Joshua flew across the room and landed on my chest and started nuzzling me. Then I was lost. Lidia

HI I'm not sure if my Sweetie is a male or female, but I chose her/him cus she/he was so sweet and wanted her/his head scratched (which she loves now and keeps on bending her head down when she is by me cus she want more and more). I also had to choose from 3 and I chose her, go with what you hear tells you Chow Karen
