We have been lurking in the forum for a while and thought we would share our new family addition. We brought our new CAG home last night and she (just calling it a girl) is doing very well so far. She is 13 weeks and still enjoying a couple hand feedings a day while she weans to feeding herself.
We are very excited--this was my wifes early b-day present. I had an CAG about 10 years ago when I was in undergrad, but I had to give him away--went to a friend that loved the bird. My wife, Amara--who was also my girlfriend at the time--absolutely loved the bird was so sad to see him go. Amara has wanted another one ever since and we finally fulfilled her wish. We waited until I finsihed grad school and started a family to incorp the new addition into a more stable home.
Anyway, the new girl's name is Avery. We are calling it a girl becuase my daughter believes she is the sister of her sulcuta tortoise Polly (which could also be a male for all I know).
Avery is getting acustomed to her new cage and family well. She has climbed all over every sqaure inch of the cage--the roof at least three times and seems to take humor in hanging upside down. She lets me, Amara and our daughter pet and scratch her. She also freely lets me and Amara pick her up and cuddles in close to our necks. We haven't let our daughter hold her yet. She is only 6yrs old and pets her while we hold. Funniest thing was later last night, Avery fell asleep while Amara was holding her. She was sitting on Amara's chest and slowly just kind of laid down as she fell asleep. I looked over and it was like Avery had just passed out on my wife's chest. We both just sat there and smiled before waking her gently to place her in her cage. I only hope she remains even half as sweet to all of us.
I left my digital camera at the office and will update with some pictures next week.
Thank y'all for letting me share.
