There are basically two recognized and acknowledged sub species: Psittacus erithacus erithacus (commonly called Congo African Greys) and Psittacus erithacus timneh (Timneh African Greys). There is quite a wide variation in CAGs as they originate from a number of countries in Africa, not just the Congo (Congo is really more of a common or popular name for the nominate sub species) and because of this they vary in size and colour, some are larger, some are paler grey but the CAGs have bright red tails. The Timnehs come from a smaller area of Africa and show less variation but they are generally smaller than CAGs and have darker more maroon colour tails. The Timnehs (TAGs) have a pale brown area on the beak whereas the CAGs have all black beaks.
With regard to eating there is a lot of information on this forum about diet and the problems of getting Greys to eat the variety they should so browse through or use the search facility, but basically you have to keep on offering different foods, fruit, vegetables etc. because they can be very fussy eaters and sometimes don't accept new food as food. You have to try different ways of presenting it and try raw, cooked etc.
You can usually tell if a Grey is angry by his body language. He will fluff up and look directly at you, possibly flaring his eyes. That can also be an indication that he might bite. If he is happy he might put his head down for you to scratch it, he will come towards you and he will be vocal.
Being nervous is normal for a Grey that you have only had for 2 days, he will settle down in time but if as you have a big family make sure no one makes any sudden movements or loud noises as this can be startling.
