Sorry but I've got another question, I've been using newspaper to cover the floor of my AG'S cage since I got her two weeks ago. Today I was told by a guy that works in a pet shop, that newspaper can be toxic to birds. I've never herd this before, and my bird seems fine. Does anyone know if this guy is right? He's got me a little worried. All the best. Russ.

I've always used newspaper, too, and Joshua chews it sometimes and spits it out. I do try to use black/white printed paper, rather than coloured newspaper, but either way I've never noticed any problems ... except when Joshua reads an article he doesn't agree with. Lidia

As long as the print is black and white you're fine. It's the color ink that can be toxic.

Newspaper is the best liner as well because it retards the growth of bacteria and fungi which can develop very quickly in other bedding type liners.

News print is the best bedding; at least for the price. I used to shread blank printer paper but it got to be such a hassel to fool with.

The only disadvantage with the newspaper as bedding thing is that it can be used as a sort of papier mache substitute by an evil-minded CAG (such as Joshua), who creates havoc with it if he is in his cage for longer than he cares to be. It gets everywhere, glued to the cage bars, to the wall, to the carpet, and all with lovely runny poo mushed in with it. Ah, it's one of those days. Lidia

I had one of those grates on the bottom of my bird's cage, so he couldn't get into his poop. His first piece-of-crap cage didn't have a grate though. I'd walk into the room and he'd have a poopsicle (a big corn-cob covered poop piece) in his foot that he'd wave at me. Blech!
By the way, I wasn't aware at the time that corn cobs were not a good idea for a cage liner.

haha Lidia and Spooky- how funny.
Mylo makes me laugh. When he's is being obvious that he is bored with is toys, he jumps from his lower perch onto the cage floor making a massive thumb noise which judders the cage - he does this on purpose to be noisy to get my attention! and then he proceeds to shred his entire (paper) floor (usually the same day ive just changed it too!!).

I think Mylo and Joshua would get on, they seem to share the same bad habits!! Lidia
