Hi
Ok so this is not the best subject to talk about, but what do you class as healthy poo. My new Sweetie, looks like she has healthy "poo" from what I can make out after reading all the messages. My question is should I be concerned about the size. My almost 4 month old Sweetie, did and enormous poo last night (about 2cm wide). I have never seen one this size before. She did not have any problems in pushing it out. And the colour looks fine (green and white mixed), not to waterish. I have noticed she will not "poo" on me but rather moves off to another place. Could she be holding it in, and if so is this OK?

The consistency of the poo sounds absolutely fine. Greys sometimes 'hold on to it' all through the night and then do enormous ones when they awaken, or when they come out of their cages, but they can do it at other times also. If she does not poo on you, then she is a very polite creature! Lidia

Yes that sounds fine. They do vary in size. I think they can be quite fastidious as to where they do it as well which is why she is moving away. Neither of mine do it on me although Mitzi is toilet trained and Monty isn't.
The big one saved up until the morning is also saved by both of them until I have gone in and uncovered them. Even if I have sneaked in earlier but not uncovered them they always wait until actual getting up time even if they are awake. Perhaps they think it is a special treat for me!

Surely the big 'saved up' poos are a treat for all of us parroteers! Lidia

Aren't we all the proud parents. Poo changes according to diet input as well. yes we are very familiar with the monster morning dump too. It get a good laugh out of it now. Buster dutifully waits until I take him out of his cage and then take him on the back deck to admire the water or hold him over the sink drain and then ....bombs away. He will even hold on if I say ....Hold on..not yet..until I can get him in position. Goooood Bird! He also will do the bird squat to alert me to a epending deposit on my shoulder. I guess he finally go me trained!

My conure saved his big morning poo for an audience too. I'd uncover him, and he'ld start squatting, with his tail swinging back and forth madly. Everybody screamed and ran away until after the explosion ;D. Here's a little article about bird poop: www.birdsnways.com/articles/efmar1.htm
