Hello! We've had our TAG for about a year now. His/her name is Einstein. He's just starting to talk, still kind of squawky sounding. First words were "Hello Freaky Bird". He's started calling the dogs (and praising them even when they don't come). His latest addition to his vocabulary was cracker. That's the only word I've actually tried to teach him that he's learned.
We have kind of a zoo here. 3 dogs- Max, Titan, and Maia the puppy we're picking up Saturday; 3 cats- Ned, Lizzie, Louie; 3 ferrets- Guinness, Mango, Eris/Spaz-Girl(Einstein is NOT happy when he has to be put in his cage so the ferrets can have some play time); a hamster- Sweet Potato; tarantula- Rosy (husband's pet); and fish tank. It seems like a lot of animals when they're all listed but you don't really notice except the dogs and, of course, if there's a certain bird chattering on his play gym.

Actually I have learned with my CAG Jack that he knows things that we are not aware of. He has said things right out of the blue that we have never said or said a while back. He may know more words just not saying them. If you hear him mumbling, I have learned that is what they do when they are practicing some new. Jack has gotten to the point that he mumbles all the time. And Skittles my Lorikeet has started her own mumbling since we got Jack. The other night she was out and got loud, I told her that was very loud in my face. She looked at me with her little red eyes and said "I'm Sorry". Where she got that I will never know. Now I hear Jack saying it as well.

They just decide for themselves what they will say and don't necessarily say the words they have heard the most. Besides saying clear words and phrases, Mitzi also does a sort of "general conversation" type of thing when she thinks she should be contributing, but it isn't anything distinct.

Joshua does the same 'general conversation' thing that Mitzi does, as well as speaking clearly the rest of the time. He also speaks in different voices for men and women. If he's speaking to me, he speaks in my voice, to any males and they get my landlord's voice for some reason!

I am so glad to know that I am not the only one with a zoo! I have 3 dogs (a daschund, a mutt, and a german shepherd), 2 cockatiels, a fish, a bunny (lop mix) and, of course, my grey Pearl. I also had an arabian saddlebred mare but I recently had to give her up because of the expense. It was one of the hardest things I ever had to do, but she went to an excellent home, and instead of slling her for cash, I made up a contract stipulating what could and could not be done with her, so I am legally guaranteed that she will be treated with the utmost care. Obviously by my rambling you can tell I am still sad by that, but anyway...I love my animals and wouldn't trade them for the world. They bring me so much happiness. I was actually going to college for vet medicine, but I had to switch my major when I realized that I wouldn't be able to put animals down. Nice to know there are other people out there who love animals as much as I do! Not much to this post other than to give props to the rest of the "animal people" in ther forum!
