New here to the group. I have been rasing Tiels for years and show them with the NCS and ACS. I recently got a rescue Grey and she is a DOLL! Loves to cuddle, snuggle, and the over all thing greys do. I was told she is 20. I have three other parrots here. I just want to introduce myself. My Name is Pete. Thanks Pete

Thanks Ladies! She is so so sweet and what is so wonderful is I NEVER held her till I got her from the cage at her old home. It took a bit to get her out as I wanted to keep all my fingers. Once out she just cuddled up on my hand. I have three other parrots. A Pionus, and a Timneh Grey. both of these are rescues. The Timneh was at an old friends home and she was going thru a divorce. The bird (Tiki Bird) had plucked her chest and all around her neck. It took a year till she got her feathers back and two years to really get filled in again. This bird also took right to me. The past owner was amazed that she did not try to take my nose off when I kissed her for the first time. My Pionus came from a woman in South Jersey. This bird had not been handled in years as he had a cage mate. His came mate (Not a Pionus) passed away shortly after I got them home. Well Poncho (The Pionus) has made a great turn around. I could not handle him and now I can get him out with a perch, and get him on my knee. I can pet his back, and all around his neck. The owner of this bird is SO SO happy that he has made a turn around. I have friends here in town, that call me the Bird man. I have taken in birds and made great strides. I tamed a Tiel that the owner had given up on. Well the little guy went back to her and she asked if it was the same bird. I would like to meet others here in NJ that work with all kinds of birds. My close friends are in RI, PA VA, NH and MA. We all show our Tiels in NCS shows. I am the NJ state coordinator for the NCS. Here is my site: www.epkenterprises.com. Again everyone Thanks for a great welcome. I hope and know I will learn so much more! Pete

Rescuing a parrot is a wonderful and very rewarding experience. I had a similar situation with my Maui.
She is 28 (she was 25 when I first got her) and she was locked in her cage her entire life. She didn't talk much, hardly ever moved and was terrified of things. It took two weeks to get her to cheer up. Then she talked up a storm. It took another few weeks for her to be confident enough to come out of her cage (I always left it open). Now she is even an okay flier (she didn't know how to fly when I got her either, although her wings weren't clipped; I exercised her several times per day and now she doesn't crash or hurt herself when flying and can do turns, etc. It has really helped her confidence). Maui's previous owner said she bit him hard. I saw it once when he dropped her off. I've never seen such a nasty bite by an african grey. Anyway, she is also super cuddly and loving. She just needed a bit of love herself.
A rescued parrot is a trusting friend for life. It seems they know you saved them and finally know how it feels to be loved.
Thanks for posting your story. I can't wait to hear the stories. What is your girl's name?

Her name is Mokkie. I had her out tonight while watching "The Voice". She is SO incredable. She cuddles up like a little puppy in my hands and just wants to have pets.
I BELEIVE that the brds I HAVE KNOW that I love them all. I live alone, there is no-one else

Thanks Amoritay. Mokkie does not like the blanket. I have tried. I have been trying to get her to fly to me since she was caged for most of her time. It will take some time I know.
