Nikko rules the roost at my house. The dog is frightened of her, and when he starts to forget that she is Queen, she'll fluff up and peep at him, and he'll run away.
Tonight we left Nikko on her playgym when we went out for dinner. She's very good about staying on her gym, but I guess there's always going to be an exception. It was my dad's fault. I gave Nikko a cracker before we walked out the door to distract her, but then my dad went to the front window and knocked on it. Why, I don't know, because he knows that Nikko feels like she needs to go everywhere with us, so why aggravate her? I yelled at him that he probably made Nikko drop her cracker.
When we got home, the dog didn't greet us. I called for him, and he came out of my parents bedroom, and shot a nervous glance towards the front window. Then I heard a little peep that did not come from the direction of the playgym. Nikko had flown to the front window and was sitting on the sill. There were several piles of poo on the floor (and wall), so I bet she flew to the window when she saw my dad out there. The dog must have hid in the bedroom when she flew. He probably wasn't too happy with her, because she was at his spot. He usually sits on an ottoman and lays his chin on the window sill so he can watch what's going on outside.
Anyhoo, Beaker will now be relegated to a locked cage when we all leave the house. And she really needs a wing clipping too.

Boy what a birthday surprize, but it could have been a lot worse. At least she stayed pretty much in the same spot, she could have roamed around and destroyed a lot of stuff. I never leave my Josey out of her cage if we are not home, there is too much danger she could get into. She is younger that your bird and she would want to be into everything to explore.

I don't know if it's Nikko's age (5 or 6), or just her personality, but she's not a roamer. She also doesn't like being on the floor, so she never gets down there and walks around. She loves to play on the kitchen counter though, and she likes to walk up and down the window sill and peck at her reflection. She's so good about staying where she should, that I get complacent sometimes.

We have a friend who found a lost CAG. She had no knowledge of them and their love of wood chewing etc. Of course she didn't have a cage when she brought the lost bird into her home. She actually left it loose and went to work! Ouch.
When she arrived home, her condo was a disaster! When no one responded to her ads re a lost bird, she bought a cage and patched up the condo. It is many years later and she still has the bird. She fell in love with him despite her chewed up woodwork.
We always remember that story and never leave home with a bird loose in the house.

She also doesn't like being on the floor, so she never gets down there and walks around. Mitzi doesn't like being on the floor either. She won't go there by choice and she won't let me put her there. Monty doesn't mind. Jane

Brody isn't fond of the floor either and is really good about staying put on her cage or playstand. I am comfortable leaving her out, but since we have a cat too, I put her away, or bring her with me, if I'm going to be out of the room more than 5 minutes. She is such a good bird, but I won't take a chance with the cat. The only time she wants to leave her cage, is if I'm cooking. Then she wants to be right there with me.

Sometimes I wish that Manzi didn't like to roam so much. He loves to climb down his cage or playtop and run around on the ground. He will do it for hours if I let him and get into everything he can reach. He likes to push things around on the floor (balls, shoes, etc) and he gets them stuck under the couch. I cleaned it out the other day and found a whole assortment of goods that Manzi had pushed under there.
It would be nice if Manzi just stayed in the same spot, but then again, it is fun that he is so playful.

The only time she wants to leave her cage, is if I'm cooking. Then she wants to be right there with me. That's Nikko too! Anytime food is involved, she wants to "help." When someone is in the kitchen, she sits on her gym fussing and twitching her wings, and says "Eat your food!" If there isn't anything on the stove, I'll let her run around on the kitchen counter to investigate everything. There are certainly pros and cons for each personality type. Nikko isn't too wild and crazy and playful, but she also doesn't scream and is very easy to care for. The playful crazy birds are very entertaining, but also loud and need more supervision.

I set up Brody's "sleeping" room this past week, and each night, we have been hanging out in there. Brody has been playing on her playstand, which is next to her sleeping cage, while I have been doing work on my laptop. There is a futon in that room too, so that I have a place for cuddle time with Brody before bed. Well... I have to say, I am so thankful that Brody is not a wanderer. Last night, I laid down on the futon and was talking to her and watching her play. It was about 8:15PM. The next thing I know, I'm waking up to her dropping a toy on her stand, which made a loud *crash*. It was 9:53PM! I had fallen asleep for a good hour and a half, and the whole time, she played on her playstand. My boyfriend said he could hear her talking and playing all night from his office which is just down the hall. She's such a good little girl!!

Glad to hear you have such a well behaved bird! And hope you don't have a cat like us. See how much they love us and just want to be with us!

LOL - we do have a cat, but he is scared to death of Brody and was asleep on my boyfriend's daughter's bed. He knows that he is not allowed in Brody's sleeping room already too! He gets chased out by me anytime he goes near the room, and since about Weds, he hasn't had any more interest in going back in! He's getting old, and he's a big, fat orange tabby. He weighs about 21 pounds and struggles to jump up on beds. He doesn't go anywhere near Brody's cages/playstand if she is out. Smart cat! Besides, he's too lazy to try to hunt anymore. He caught a mouse 2 years ago. Did he kill it? No. He *gently* played with it and then let it go. I think if given the chance, he would probably cuddle with Brody. He just wants to be held and scratched. Brody shows too much interest in his ever-swaying tail though, and I won't even think about letting them try to be friends. As long as they tolerate each other in the house, I'm happy!

That's funny, Oscar seems to think of the cat's tails as something he wants to bite. I have to watch him pretty carefully, because I'm pretty sure the cats would turn around and do some damage if he were to bite their tails. FYI, the only reason he's within 6 feet of a cat is when he's with me and a cat is on the couch nearby. They mostly ignore him, though.
