a couple days ago we has some chicken drumsticks on the bbq. Well as i started eating my chicken Gracie spotted the chicken bone and attacked my plate! She went straight for that bone! She completely demolished 2 chicken bones..she sat there for a good 30-40 min just eating those chicken bones and taking them apart. Then my cockatiel cookie, who has never ever touched a piece of meat in 10 years sees gracie eating the bone..and gets curious..and he starts eating chicken bones with her! they were actually sharing the bone together under my supervision of course...it was the cutests most sweetest thing i have ever seen! and cookie was trying to eat food from gracies mouth a few times too..cause he likes being fed! it was really sweet..i was nervous that she would try to hurt him...but she shares quite well...we have been very impressed by her great manners! Gracie is most defenitly the best well behaved bird we have ever owned! i wish i had a camera to capture that moment! ;D

Both my girls LOVE, LOVE, LOVE bbq ribs! I'll eat most of the meat off, save them a little on there, and hand it to them. They grab it eagerly, and have the best time pulling meat off and eating it. Does make for greasy feet, though...

i cant get zeke to try meat at this point, but i haven't tried bones. i know with dogs they say not to give them chicken bones since they are prone to splinter (more so then other bones), is this true for birds also??

I wouldn't take a chance, personally, but I can't imagine them being able to swallow any bones, but why risk it, unless you're not taking you eyes off them for a minute..

Manzi decided to join us for dinner when we were having chicken. He pulverized the bones. I think he was going after the marrow, but I wasn't sure. He definitely turned the chicken bones into a thousand little pieces. I was watching him the whole time and I couldn't see any negative affect. He went through around 5 chicken legs (after we ate most of the meat off of them) in 15 minutes.

gracie does the exact same thing..she pulverizes those bones..she practically jumps into my plate if she eyes those chicken drumsticks...im pretty sure your bird was going for the marrow....i always watch gracie eat her bones and i notice she sticks her beak in thte marrow to eat it...she seems to enjoy it quite a bit!

Isn't it just the cutest thing to see them eating their bones? I've not had my Gracie long enough to share them with her, but my conures absolutely love it when we have Hot Wings (actually just the drummies). They will pick up the little drum sticks and go to town! The hotter the better! I was talking to my vet about nutrition one day and he was the one who suggested letting them destroy the bone to get to the marrow. He said it was really good for them.

Hey! I'll have to try that. I don't think Oliver's ever had any BBQ or chicken bones before. At least I didn't give it to him. Our other birds liked chicken.

Hmm..billie doesnt much like my cockatiel, Sunny. I don't think billie realizes shes a bird...it was really cute though, when we first brough billie home, i brought sunny up to her cage and billie stuck one of her feet through the cage reacher for sunny. I thought it was funny.

I think you also have to go a little easy on the sugars.
