Tango, LOVES to rip up his newspaper. From the time i change it he reaches down through the bars and pulls it through them and starts to rip! He tears it into shreds and strips and then goes on a field day by throwing it around his cage and watching it float to the floor with a grin! Its so annoying!Ive tried taping the newspaper down but he still gets to it somehow! Is there a certain reason why he does this ?lol. It gets me so mad because i clean his pan and then spend all that time rinsing it and then when its nice and clean with fresh paper he makes it a mess!!! What is his deal? ? Thanks! Resham

They like chewing newspaper up. Another member was saying the same thing recently. Try getting a roll of it and hanging it up in the cage so he can chew it, or till roll paper. You can even get toys to put a roll of newspaper in. Also the pinata toys are good as some of them are made of paper and card and they can be chewed up and destroyed.

I have to laugh, because I LOVE when Baby chews on her newspaper, because it means she's NOT chewing on her feathers.

If you want to try and get him to tear other paper instead of the pan paper you get get the holder Jane mentioned. If you can't find one you can get a carrot holder (for rabbits) and roll up paper and put in it.
I guess I'm lucky. Jake doesn't rip up anything yet.

Try to make sure the newspaper is only black and white, the colour print is somewhat toxic.

I'm sure this tip will help all with birds that like to chew on their tray paper.........my AG was quite messy and I was forever cleaning out his base tray so I thought so washable wallpaper very cheap to buy and also I could just wipe with a damp cloth to remove his waste....then later I was redecorating my kitchen and put some new " cushion flooring" on the floor (maybe u call it by another name in your country?) anyway I had some surplus flooring material left over so I decided to line the bottom of Charlie's cage with the flooring ;D....What a difference cleaning takes mins and also Charlie has a lovely decoratative house himself would love to hear what you think of this idea

I guess the flooring is fine so long as he isn't chewing it. If it is linoleum or the modern synthetic equivalent thereof, it might not be the best thing if it's chewable.
In Joshua's new cage, I have been putting paper only on the part of the floor that he poops on, and I put his toys and his bowl of water (thank you, Jane!) at the other end. This has been working quite well and his paper-chewing activities have reduced significantly as a result.

My husband brought home some extra marble tile from work one day and we lined his play top with it. Cleaning is so easy and it looks awful nice. It sure did make it a lot heavier though.
My CAG can't reach his newspaper, but he loves to chew things. Would it be alright to leave black and white newspaper in the cage to let him shred? I bought a kind of wood toy once that was just five cylinders put on a rope. It was the kind of wood that is easily shredded and he tore it up within a day. It gets expensive to buy those. Does anyone know what kind of wood it is that is used to make that toy? I'm sure it is much cheaper to buy the wood and make it myself.

Philly,
It's not magic, sorry! His perches are arranged inside the cage so that where he tends to sit is over on one side of the cage. While there are perches on the other side, so he can climb, he doesn't tend to sit or sleep on them and so that side doesn't get pooped on!!!

Lidia good idea Lidia my Charlie tends to poop where and when the notion takes him he has like a 2 tier house (sorry I tend to call it his house rather than a cage)he poops in the bottom and then climbs up to the top area of his house and poops there and then the little darling stands on the rim of his top tier puts his tail over the side and poops ...rather messy dont you think........ahhhh but his my little darling ......whats poop between friends eh!

Has anyone here tried to train their babies to poop into a wastebasket or soething of that sort ?? I read an article somewhere on that and I also bought a book on potty training that mentions this can be done in just a couple of weeks.

I didn't train Mitzi to a container, I started by training her to stand on the perch in her cage (she was "squirting" out through the bars) and then I trained her to her portable perch. She nows goes either in her cage or on her portable perch and she will let me know when she wants to.
